Serena Lauren Ryder is a Canadian singer-songwriter. She was born on December 8, 1982, in Ontario. She was born in Toronto, although she spent her childhood in the town of Millbrook in Ontario. Ryder has released a total of eight studio albums since she initially rose to national prominence in 2007 with the release of the ballad “Weak in the Knees.” Serena Lauren Ryder is a member of a musically talented family. Her biological father was a musician from Trinidad who settled in Canada in the early sixties after having emigrated there. Her uncle, the part-Ojibwe (Temagami First Nation) singer-songwriter Bob Carpenter, collaborated with producer Brian Ahern and vocalist Emmylou Harris to create the unreleased album Quiet Passage (1974), which has since become a folk-rock cult classic. This album was recorded in 1974. Ryder, the youngest of three children, was raised by Barbara and her second husband, Andrew McKibbon, just outside Peterborough, in Millbrook, Ontario.
