American film and television producer, director, and screenwriter Lee Daniels was born on December 24, 1959. In 2001, Daniels received his first producer credit for Monster’s Ball, for which Halle Berry won the Academy Award for Best Actress. This made Daniels the first African-American film producer to alone produce an Oscar-winner. The first film he directed was Shadowboxer in 2005; since then, he has directed Precious (2009), The Paperboy (2012) (which he also co-wrote), The Butler (2013), and The United States of America vs. Billie Holiday (2015). (2021). Well known for its critical praise, Precious also earned Daniels two Oscar nods (for Best Director and Best Picture).

He has also produced the movies The Woodsman (2004), Tennessee (2008), Pimp (2018), and Concrete Cowboy (2020). On December 24, 1959, in West Philadelphia, Daniels was born to parents Clara May (Watson) and William Louis Daniels. He is the oldest of their two sons. There are four members of the Daniels family: Leah, Maynard, Cheryl, and Lydia (also known as “Girlie”). Leah Daniels-Butler, his younger sister, is a TV and film casting director who is credited with working on several of his productions. In this case, the citation is required. Lee’s mom made arrangements for his public high school education in Radnor by having his next-door neighbours, who worked as butlers for the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey club. When Daniels was 15 years old, his father, a police officer, was murdered on the job. In 1978, he received his diploma from Radnor High School.
