Hari Nef Bio

Hari Nef is an American actress, model, and writer. She was born on October 21, 1992, in the United States. Her performance as Gittel in the original Amazon series Transparent was critically acclaimed, and she was recognized for it with a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild award in 2016.

She made her debut at New York Fashion Week Spring 2015, walking the runway for both Hood By Air and Eckhaus Latta. After that, she became the first openly transgender woman to be signed to an IMG Models contract. She made history by being the first transgender lady to ever appear on the cover of a major publication in the United Kingdom. Nef has written about a wide variety of subjects, ranging from movies and fine art to sex, gender, and the identity of transgender people.New York City is both her home and her place of employment. In the television series Transparent, which won an Emmy in 2015, Nef portrayed the character of Tante Gittel. Gittel’s character is an ancestor of the Pfefferman family who was a cross-dresser and spent her life in Berlin, Germany, during the Weimar Republic. She was finally killed during the Holocaust. Gittel’s story is told in the first person. After the two of them met on social media and went to a PFLAG party together, the creator Joey Soloway developed the role just for Nef to play. For her work in the role, she was considered for a SAG Award in 2016.
